Start Walking:

Your horse should walk with you.

If not, bring lead rope/reins forward “guiding” your horse forward, cluck if needed.

Stop:

Your horse should halt.

If not, pull gently on lead rope/reins, “whoa” with your voice if needed.

Keep Repeating Walk/Halt/Walk:

When your horse is attentive and listening to your cues (body language/voice) introduce a few trot steps. This should be fun! You can also start changing directions by stepping into your horse’s space, or away from you….the expectation should be that your horse follows every step you take in a respectful manner! Consider it a fun game!
